Supreme Court has asked Election Commission to file a reply within two weeks on a plea seeking direction for common electoral rolls for Parliament, Assembly and local body polls to save public money and manpower.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra, and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud,

listed the matter for disposal on March 5 and asked Attorney General KK Venugopal to assist the court in the matter.

The Apex Court had on October 13 last year sought the response of the Centre and the Election Commission on the plea, filed by Delhi BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay.
