The Supreme Court has extended till the 3rd of next month the parole granted to Sahara Chief Subrata Roy on humantarian grounds following the death of his mother. A bench, headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur, in its order yesterday put a strict condition that Mr Roy will have to deposit the balance of 300 crores, of the 500 crore rupees promised by him.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Roy, was seeking time till the year end for
depositing 300 crores, but the bench said it has already given a long rope.
Besides extension of Roy's parole, the Sahara Group also got relief with the apex court lifting its embargo of permitting it to sell only 19 properties. The bench allowed the group to go ahead with sale and alienation of their other properties to raise an amount of 5,000 crores as a bank guarantee they have to deposit in addition to 5,000 crores to get bail for Roy.
