The Supreme Court yesterday granted bail to alleged middleman Christian Michel James in the 3,600 crore rupees AgustaWestland chopper scam. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta observed that James had been in custody for the past six years while the investigation into the matter was still underway.
According to a news
agency, James was arrested in December 2018 after being extradited from Dubai and sent to judicial custody on January 5, 2019. He is referred to as a middleman for the alleged illegal transactions that took place in the purchase of 12 VVIP choppers from AgustaWestland under the UPA government in 2010.
