The Supreme Court
will today hear a plea for transferring RJD leader Mohammad Shahabuddin from
Siwan district jail to Tihar Central Jail and his trial in Delhi. A bench of
Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Amitava Roy yesterday agreed to hear the plea.
sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">The plea was filed by
the victims' families alleging that free and fair trial against Shahabuddin was
not possible if he remained in a jail in Bihar. The petitioners alleged that
witnesses would not be able to depose against the controversial leader with his
goons threatening them. Shahabuddin is facing trial in 45 criminal cases.
