In Kerala, search operations for more bodies from the landslide ravaged Wayanad enters the seventh day today. The authorities are leaving no stones unturned to ensure that bodies are not left in the debris in the region or in the downstream areas of Malappuram district.
Search operations for more bodies are taking place today as well, as over a hundred persons are reported to be missing. Yesterday, the authorities carried out searches with the help of drone based Intelligent Buried Objects Detection system to find out more bodies. Contour maps are
also being prepared to study the pre and post landslide changes in the region.
More army personnel and four specially trained sniffer dogs will be airlifted from Meerut to assist the search opeations. Of 67 unidentified bodies or dismembered body parts kept at Meppady, eight were interred last night at Puththumala. The bodies have been retained in the hope that some relative will turn up to identify them. However, sources indicated that more bodies are likely to be taken up for burial today.
