Jammu: Five foreign terrorists were killed by security forces in a gunfight that broke-out between terrorists and the joint security forces along the Line of Control (LoC) at Jumagund area in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
GOC 28 Division, Grish Kalia while speaking to media persons in Kupwara regarding elimination of five terrorists at Jumgund said that in the recent past a large number of intelligence inputs were received from various intelligence agencies about likely infiltration of terrorists from across Line of Control. Yesterday, a specific intelligence input was received of likely infiltration along Jumagund Nar from Jammu & Kashmir Police.
He said a Joint Operation by Indian Army and J&K Police was launched in Keran Sector on the intervening night wherein multiple ambushes were laid along the likely routes of infiltration. He said at around last midnight hours ambush teams observed five heavily armed terrorists crossing the Line of Control and the terrorists were engaged by ambush teams along the fence in spite of adverse weather and terrain conditions.
Mr Kalia said the ensuing
firefight resulted in elimination of five infiltrating terrorists without any collateral damage. The operation continued throughout the night and the detailed search of the area was carried during early morning. Identity of the terrorists and their affiliation is being ascertained.
Meanwhile, five AK series rifles, fourteen grenades, five hundred AK rounds, night vision googles and other huge quantity of war like stores were recovered from the site of operation.
The GoC further said that the successful intelligence-based operation is yet another example of close synergy between Indian Army and J&K police. He said the operation clearly establishes the evil design of terrorist groups which are determined to disrupt peace in Kashmir.
He said it also exposes the facade of false commitment to the ceasefire understanding by Pakistan which has repeatedly been exploited to perpetrate terror in Jammu and Kashmir and said the security forces stand steadfast to defeat the nefarious designs of inimical elements to disrupt peace and harmony in Kashmir.
