The first husband of Seema Haider, the Pakistani woman who crossed over to India with her four children to be with her lover Sachin, hired an Indian lawyer to bring his kids back, said a report by PTI news agency.
A top Pakistani lawyer and human rights activist, Ansar Burney, told PTI that Ghulam Haider, Seema Haider's first husband, approached him for help in getting custody of his four children.
An Indian lawyer named Ali Momin was hired after due process and the power of attorney has been sent to start legal proceedings in India, said Burney.
According to him, Ghulam Haider has a strong case as the children are underage, and their religious conversion is prohibited as per international laws. Ghulam has "every right" to his children because
they are still Pakistani nationals despite Seema settling with Sachin in Greater Noida, said the lawyer.
Seema Haider had earlier claimed that she, along with her children, adopted Hinduism. While speaking to India Today in July 2023, Seema said she has embraced Hinduism and adopted a vegetarian lifestyle like Sachin's family.
Seema also said she has no desire to return to Pakistan as she believes she would be killed if she were to go back.
Burney said Ghulam wanted nothing to do with his wife but only wanted his children back in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Seema and Sachin's legal representative, advocate AP Singh, told PTI they are not aware of any new developments and they will respond accordingly when an official document comes.
