Self-styled godman Asaram has been convicted by a Jodhpur court in a 2013 rape case. 

Proceedings took place in the Jodhpur Central Jail premises where a trial court judge pronounced its verdict in the rape case of a teenager by self-styled godman Asaram. 

As per the directions of the Rajasthan High Court, Special Judge SC/ST Court Madhusudhan Sharma delivered the verdict in the Jodhpur Central Jail premises where Asaram has been lodged for the past over four years. Quantum of punishment will be pronounced soon.

Final arguments in the case had been completed by the



special court for SC/ST cases on April 7 and the court had kept the order reserved for today. 

The charge sheet against Asaram and four other co-accused was filed by the police on November 6, 2013 under various sections of the POSCO Act, Juvenile Justice Act and IPC. 

A tight security cordon has been thrown around the jail in Jodhpur where prohibitory orders have already been clamped.Asaram is also facing a rape case in Surat of Gujarat in which the Supreme Court earlier this month gave five weeks time to the prosecution to complete the trial.
