Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi yesterday demanded an increase in the minimum wage under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) scheme.

During Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, she raised the issue accusing the government of

undermining the scheme. She said, the Budget allocation remains stagnant at 86 thousand crore rupees for this employment guarantee scheme. She demanded that adequate financial provisions be made to expand the scheme and increase the minimum wage.
