Senior JMM leader Champai Soren will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand today. State Governor CP Radhakrishnan invited Mr Soren to take oath yesterday evening. The move came hours after Champai Soren met Governor yesterday pleading that he be called to take oath.

Hemant Soren resigned on Wednesday night as the chief minister after the ED questioned him in a money laundering case. Hemant Soren was arrested the same night by the ED. The ruling JMM-Congress-RJD alliance of Jharkhand has 47 MLAs in the 81-member house, where the majority mark is 41. Currently, 43 MLAs are backing Champai Soren.
