Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar today linked the destruction caused due to the torrential rains in Osmanabad to the earthquake that rocked the district in the year 1993.
Addressing a press conference at Tuljapur in Osmanabad district, he said since the magnitude of the devastation due to the incessant rains is huge, the Maharashtra Government has no other alternative but to opt to
borrow a loan. He said crops are worst affected, and as a reason there is a need to make changes in the criteria in the crop insurance scheme. He said, the torrential rains have hit the farmers' hard and it is necessary to bring them out of the crisis. The sugarcane crop produced in Osmanabad is among the worst hit, as it has been completely washed away causing extensive loss to the farmers, he added.
