Eid ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of the Shawwal month. Muslims around the world will be celebrating Eid ul-Fitr with the first sighting of the crescent moon after a month of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
This year, Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on May 3 in India. When a new crescent moon is sighted and confirmed by religious authorities, the Islamic month begins. Eid is observed on
different days around the world depending on the sighting of the new moon.
As per Lucknow's Markazi Chand Committee, the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted on May 1. Hence, May 2 will be observed as the last day of Ramadan 2022 and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated there on Tuesday, May 3.
India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and other South Asian countries will celebrate Eid on May 3.
