Sikkim govt extends ongoing statewide lockdown with some relaxations

Sikkim government has extended the ongoing statewide lockdown with some relaxations.

At a COVID19 review meeting chaired by chief minister PS Tamang today in Gangtok, it was also decided to vaccinate 65,000 people in the 18-44 age group this month; and preparing a team for treatment of Mucormycosis.

As part of relaxations during the extended lockdown in Sikkim till 14th June, ration, vegetable and hardware shops have been allowed to operate during 7am to 2pm, while state government departments have been directed to function with 30 per cent staff.

 

All other measures effective during the ongoing lockdown will be in force till 14th June.

These include restriction on movement except emergency and essential services and for



COVID19 vaccination.

Relaxations include MGNREGA works and agricultural activities in areas with no COVID19 cases.

During the review meeting held today, the improving COVID19 situation in the state, considering a drop in test positivity, and increased tests and recovery rate were highlighted.

The meeting also discussed availability of oxygen, vital equipment and medicines; status of vaccination; distribution of Covid care kits and essentials to people under home isolation in rural areas; and setting up of paediatric ICU facilities for children contracting COVID19.

Separately, Sikkim on Sunday reported 340 new COVID19 cases based on 2,548 tests, 247 recoveries and five fatalities.
