Kothagudem: In a major anti-naxal operation in the district in the year, six Maoists were reportedly gunned down in an exchange of fire between the police and the naxals in the forests near Chennapuram in Cherla mandal in the district on Monday.

The incident took place during early hours in the day in which the troops of Telangana Greyhounds and Special Party Police engaged in combing operation came



face to face with Maoists in the forest area of village Doraguda, near Pesarlapadu of Sukma district of Chhattisgarh and it led to opening of fire by both the naxals and police.

Police troops reportedly recovered six dead bodies of Maoists along with six weapons, sources said. Police not yet released any official statement about the incident.
