Six people, most of them from one family, were killed in an accident on the Eastern Freeway in south Mumbai on Saturday morning. Three others are injured and have been rushed to the JJ hospital. The accident led to a massive traffic jam on the Eastern Freeway's south-bound stretch with the backlog stretching up to Sewri, police said.
The mishap was reported around 9 am. There were at least nine people
travelling in a cab which turned turtle. The occupants of the cab included three women, two children and men. Pydhonie traffic police immediately reached the spot to extract the victims from the wreckage. The taxi driver was also injured.
The Dongri police are investigating the case. Relatives of the victims are being informed by the police. The mangled taxi will be towed to Dongri police station.
