The Republic of Korea (South Korea) has decided to set up a consulate in Guntur. This comes in the backdrop of the AP government announcing a ‘South Korea City’ in the state last week.
A large number of South Korean companies lining up to invest in AP is the reason for a separate consulate in the capital region. “The new consulate office in Guntur will facilitate people from both Korea and Andhra Pradesh,” said Hyung Tae Kim, consul general of
Republic of Korea in South India.
Speaking to the media at Vignan University on Thursday, Kim said that more than 100 companies from Korea are keen to set shop in AP. He said that Kia Motors has already started working on a huge manufacturing plant in Anantapur, where it is investing Rs.13,000 crore.
The consul general said that more than 2,000 Koreans are working on different projects in the state.
