Southern districts of Tamil Nadu lashes heavy rain

In Tamil Nadu, heavy rain is lashing southern districts of Tirunelveli Thoothukudi and interior districts of Theni, Dindugul and Tirupur. Flood alerts have been issued in many districts including Tirunelveli, Tirupur, Karur Theni and Tiruchirapalli. 

The MeT office has forecast heavy rain in coastal districts and interior regions of Tamil Nadu as trough of low pressure near south west Bay of Bengal persists. Another trough of low pressure near Kannya Kumari Sea has moved westwards towards Lakshadweep and Maldives. 

Holiday has been announced for schools in Chennai Thanjavur Dindugul Tiruvallur Kanchipuram and Nagai. More than 10,000 lorry transport service to Chennai Puducherry and Cuddalore are badly



affected because of heavy rain according to All India Motor Transport Congress. 

The Finance Ministry held a review meeting with public sector insurance companies including LIC and discussed ways for expeditious disposal of claims related to floods in Tamil Nadu. A statement issue by the Ministry said the meeting was held with IRDA, LIC, all Public Sector General Insurance Companies and GIPSA to review the position.

It said, IRDA has issued instructions for the appointment of Nodal officers for Private Sector Insurance Companies (PSIC) and expeditious disposal of claims by them. It added that LIC and other companies are organising awareness camps for facilitation and coordination in settlement of claims.
