In Uttar Pradesh, crisis within the ruling Samajwadi Party seems to have deepened as newly appointed state unit chief Shivpal Yadav late last evening resigned from all party posts and ministerial berths. His son Aditya Yadav also resigned as Chairman of Pradeshik Cooperative Federation.
The announcement came within minutes after Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav at his Lucknow residence.
Sources, however, said that the Chief Minister has refused to accept Shivpal Yadav's resignation and sent back his letter.UP Health Minister Ravidas Mehrotra says that the party’s parliamentary board will convene today to resolve the feud.
In the evening yesterday, Shivpal met the Chief Minister in Lucknow for only about twenty minutes.Mulayam Singh tried to broker a
peace deal between his warring brother and son.
His efforts, however, seem to have failed to diffuse the tension as Shivpal handed his resignation from all party and government posts to Akhilesh.
On Tuesday, Akhilesh was replaced by Shivpal as Party's state chief. A day after he was replaced, the Chief Minister stripped Shivpal of various key portfolios.
The turf war escalated with the sacking of Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Deepak Singhal, who is considered to be close to Shivpal, and two cabinet ministers. However, Akhilesh clarified that there was no rift within the family but hinted at trouble brewing within the government.
In late night development, more than a dozen MLAs and several ministers reached Shivpal Yadav's house to meet him in Lucknow after he resigned from all party and government posts.
