The Supreme Court will today hear a plea seeking the safety and security of doctors in government hospitals across the country. A vacation bench of Justices Deepak Gupta and Surya Kant agreed to list the matter for today.
The plea was filed on Friday in the wake of protests by doctors in West Bengal against the assault on their colleagues by a patient's family members.
The petition has
also sought directions to Union ministries of home affairs and health and Government of West Bengal to depute security personnel at all state-run hospitals across the country.
The plea also sought directions to Bengal government to take the strictest legal and penal action against those who assaulted junior doctors at NRS Medical College Hospital in Kolkata.
