External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in New York, yesterday, to represent India at the annual UN General Assembly, UNGA, session. Mrs Swaraj will address the session on Saturday.
Mrs Swaraj would kick off her official engagement today with a trilateral meeting of foreign ministers of India, US and Japan to give momentum to their cooperation.Later today, she will also attend a high-level meeting on UN Reforms to be hosted by the US and chaired by president Donald Trump.India is among the 120 countries who have supported the reform
efforts of the UN Secretary General.
India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Syed Akbaruddin, said that Ms Swaraj will also participate in a special panel of selected countries by the UN Secretary General on climate action. He said, climate change, terrorism, people centric migration and peacekeeping are other key focus areas for India this year.
Mr Akbaruddin in an interaction with Indian reporters ruled out a bilateral meeting between Mrs Swaraj and her Pakistani counterpart.
