In Tamil Nadu, fishermen representatives from Rameswaram will be meeting Union external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj today in New Delhi. The fishermen had called off their protest in Thankachimadom on 12th of this month after Union Ministers Nirmala Seetharaman and Pon Radhakrishnan promised to facilitate talks with external affairs minister.
Thankachimadom fishermen protested for more than a week demanding lasting solution to fishermen issue, release of 128 fishing boats detained by Sri

Lanka and fishing rights in traditional waters in Palk Bay.

They had refused to receive the body of Rameswraam fisherman shot dead by Sri Lankan Navy. Union Ministers Pon Radhakrishnan and Nirmala Seetharaman met the fishermen and promised to facilitate talks with external affairs minister and officials in Delhi. The fishermen hope that there will be an end to attacks by Sri Lankan Navy on innocent fishermen from Tamil Nadu in traditional waters.
