Suspended Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze’s NIA custody has been extended till 3rd April. A prime suspect in the Antilia bomb scare and the death of Thane-based car dealer Mansukh Hiren, Sachin Vaze was arrested by the NIA earlier this month.
During the hearing, Vaze told the special court that he was being made a scapegoat and he had nothing to do with the Mansukh Hiren case. He submitted that he was the investigating officer in the Antilia Bomb Scare case for just a day and a half and did whatever he could in his capacity.
Senior Advocate Aabad Ponda appeared for Vaze further argued that Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was not applicable to his
client case as the intent was never to strike a community or country, adding that gelatin sticks cannot explode by themselves.
Meanwhile, seeking Vaze’s custody for 15 more days, Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, appearing for NIA, said that the Antilia bomb scare case is one of the most "heinous" crimes as a police officer is found to be involved in placing explosives.
He said 62 unaccounted bullets have been recovered from Vaze's residence while 25 of the 30 bullets allotted to him officially have been missing. Singh informed the court that samples collected from Vaze's car have been sent for forensic analysis.
