Tamil Nadu Cabinet approves implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations

The Tamil Nadu Cabinet has approved the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations to benefit the state government employees and teachers. 

The Cabinet met at the Secretariat in Chennai yesterday Chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy. It looked into the report submitted by a high-level committee led by State Finance Department Principal Secretary K Shanmugam over the implementation of the pay panel report. 

A government release later said, the pay panel report will be implemented in the state, benefitting about ten lakh staff and teachers apart from pensioners and those receiving family



pension.The decision will cost nearly 15-thousand crore rupees annually to the state exchequer.

The minimum basic pay for Tamil Nadu government staff and teachers will now see a rise from six thousand one hundred rupees to fifteen thousand seven hundred rupees. The basic pay will be capped at two lakh twenty five thousand rupees, an increase by an amount of one lakh forty eight thousand rupees. 

Meanwhile, the Cabinet decision has been welcomed by State employee associations. It is worth noting that the hike comes as Diwali bonanza for the staff and pensioners with its incremental recurring effect.
