In view of the extremely heavy rain alert for the four districts in North Tamil Nadu till the 17th of this month, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin yesterday reviewed the preparedness in the state. The review meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, other top officials and the district Collectors. The Regional Met Department has predicted unprecedented heavy rains from today till the 17th because of the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal which is likely to cause landfall between South Andhra and North Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, the trough of low pressure which has been formed in the Southeast of the Bay of Bengal continues to remain static. The trough is expected to move westwards and northwestwards towards the Coast of North Tamil Nadu in the ensuing

days.

The Regional Met Department has predicted that there is a low-pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and it is likely to become a well-marked low-pressure area and move west northwestwards towards North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining South Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next two days.

The prediction is that there will be enhanced rainfall activity is very likely over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the next four days. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till 18th October. The State Government has set up teams of officials to monitor and oversee the preparations for the first spell of heavy rains this season. The Government set up control rooms and a helpline 1913 for any information related to the rains.
