The Tamil Nadu Meteorological Department has said a well-marked low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal centred at around 490 km near Chennai is likely to cross the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Nellore tomorrow morning. Under its influence, widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy to very heavy rain, is expected over the next 24 hours. Extremely heavy rainfall is also likely for the



next two days.

Storm warning signal 3 has been hoisted at Chennai, Cuddalore, Ennore, Kattupalli, and Puducherry. At Nagapattinam also a lower category warning signal has been hoisted along with caution signals in Thoothukudi, Pamban, and Karaikal. Educational institutions will remain closed in districts with a forecast of heavy rain today.
