Many places in Tamil Nadu have recorded light to moderate rain in the last twenty four hours as the North-East Monsoon is active. The India Meteorological Department in Chennai has said, the two weather systems in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea have intensified into well-marked low-pressure areas.
In a weather bulletin, the officials said, both are intensifying to become depressions. The system in the West-Central Bay and its adjoining South West Bay is likely to become a Depression in the next 48-hours and move towards the Andhra Coast. The system in the central parts of the Arabian Sea is also gathering steam to concentrate into a Depressions. It is set to move initially towards the East-North East direction till the 25th of this month, and afterwards will recurve towards the opposite direction.
Under the influence of the weather systems, heavy to very heavy rain is expected at isolated places in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Thanjavur, Nagappattinam, Tiruvarur and Ramanathapuram districts from today for the next twenty-four
hours and light to moderate rain is predicted in a few other places.
Due to squally winds, fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea adjoining North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and the South East Arabian Sea.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy reviewed the monsoon preparedness in the state yesterday with ministers and senior officials of different departments.
The rain has brought copious inflow into the reservoirs in the Western parts of the state. The services of the Nilgiris Mountain Railway have been suspended till Friday due to landslides in the hilly tracts. The State Administration has readied more than 21-thousand first responders in all the districts to report to the disaster management officials about any flood-like situation during the monsoon period. Marriage Halls and educational institutions have been identified to temporarily accommodate people if they are required to be evacuated if any flood situation arises.
