In a scathing attack on the state government, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan alleged that the government discriminated against her for being a woman. Tamilisai was addressing a public function as she completed three years in office.
Backing her claim, Tamilisai said she was denied the opportunity to deliver the Governor’s address and hoist the flag on Republic Day.
"Whenever I wanted to reach out to the people, definitely there was some hurdle," she said, addressing at a public function as she completed three years in office. "The state will write in its history how a woman governor was discriminated against," reported ANI.
Tamilisai also accused the KCR (K Chandrasekhar Rao) government in the state of denying a chopper she
requested to go to a tribal festival in Mulugu district.
"I needed to go to the Sammakka Sarakka (Jatara), so had asked the government for a helicopter because the road journey would take eight hours... Till the last minute, we were not informed whether they would give the helicopter or not. We left the next morning by car," ANI quoted her as saying.
Tamilisai, in her statement, remarked that she works more than men and doesn’t want anything out of a mere reservation for women. However, she emphasised that everyone should respect womanhood. Soundararajan further added that she now travels only by car or train.
However, an underlying political angle was assumed in her claim as Soundararajan happens to be a former chief of the Tamil Nadu BJP.
