Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal has said that after the intervention of the Centre, the Telangana Government has decided to start distribution of foodgrains under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana which was stopped from April this year in the state.
Addressing media in New Delhi last evening, Mr Goyal said, the State Government has distributed foodgrains for June and assured to release the quota for July also. The State Government has also been asked to clear the backlog of April and May quotas this year so that no poor people are deprived of their entitlements. He said,
the Food Corporation of India has allowed the State Government to start the procurement process with the immediate effect both for paddy and rice from the rice millers.
Mr Goyal accused the Telangana Government of showing an insensitive approach toward the poor by stopping their monthly entitlement of five kilograms of foodgrains per person under PMGKAY.
Mr Goyal said, they are trying to strengthen ties between Centre and States, but Telangana government is showing total non-cooperation and insensitivity towards its people.
