Telangana: In a bizarre case, the husband of a former Congress leader Uppu Hymavathi reportedly went back to voters demanding the money the couple distributed before elections.

According to sources, the candidate from a ward in Telangana managed to bag only 24 votes and lost the local ward elections, following which her husband Prabhakar went to voters and demanded that the money he had distributed among voters should be returned. The bizarre incident took place in Suryapet in Telangana.

In Suryapet district's, Jagireddygudem, in the 9th ward, TRS candidate Uppu Hymavathi lost the recently concluded election. A video was recorded of the husband, Prabhakar first requesting and then demanding for the

money to be returned. It is leant that Rs 500-700 was distributed among the voters. In the video grab accessed by Times Now, Prabhakar was seen asking the villagers that they should return the money, as despite taking a favour from the candidate, they did not vote for her in the elections. According to the report, the villagers finally gathered together and drove him away.

Though a local incident, this is not the first time that cash-for-votes case has come to light in Telangana. In October, Uppal police had arrested an individual for involvement in a cash-for-votes scandal. In 2015, a massive cash-for-votes scandal had hit the Telangana Assembly, when money exchanged hands to ensure the election of a candidate for an MLC seat.
