A Telugu software engineer, Nagarjuna Gogineni (32) from Gottemukkala village of Kanchikacharla mandal in Andhra Pradesh, drowned at Elk River Falls, where he went for a swim with his friends on Sunday evening, near Charlotte town of North Carolina in the United States of America, according to reports reaching here.
Nag, as he was fondly called by his friends, went out with his friends for a drive and visited the waterfalls, some two hour drive from Charlotte.
He reportedly jumped into the water from a side and “appeared to have struggled and went underwater” He did not resurface raising suspicions among his friends who called in the police.
Divers, recovered the body of Nagarjuna two hours later and shifted it for autopsy at the medical
examiner’s office in Lenoir, according to a statement issued by the Avery Country Sheriff Kevin Frye. This is the second incident of drowning at the Elk River Falls in the recent times.
Nagarjuna Gogineni, according to his Linked In profile, works as an ETL Consultant at OctaPharma Plasma Inc and had completed his Master’s degree in Information Technology (2008-2010) and had begun working in the current company just four months ago.
His friends in the United States have contacted the Telugu Associaion of North America (TANA) for transporting his mortal remains to India. Further details are awaited.
Earlier, a reporter of a local news channel had tweeted a photograph of the location of the incident.
