Several people were feared killed and dozens injured when terrorists targeted a corps headquarters of the Afghan National Army corps in Mazar-e-Sharif city on Friday, according to reports in the Afghan media.
Heavy gunfire and an explosion were heard in the vicinity of the headquarters of the 209th Shaheen Corps in the capital of northern Balkh province.
The attack began at around 1.30 pm Afghan time, when the terrorists attempted to enter the army complex. Some reports suggested the terrorists targeted soldiers and officers outside a mosque soon after the Friday



prayers.
Khaama Press news agency report at least one person was killed and around 30 others were injured. Other reports suggested that up to 15 people were killed though the figures for casualties could not be independently confirmed.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack. The local government and security officials did not comment on the incident.
Army helicopters were seen hovering over the area and journalists were not being allowed to move close to the army complex, media reports said.
Mazar-e-Sharif is among the four Afghan cities where India has consulates.
