Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh said one crore artisans are working in the field of art and craft, and they need technological intervention, innovation, and a better market. Mr. Singh was addressing a student and artisan experience-sharing dialogue event this evening on the sidelines of the onset of the three-day Craft Bazaar at NIFT Patna.

The Minister said the institutions working in the textiles and craft sector have to evolve such a system so that these artisans reap the benefits of their skill and talent. He said handholding and

marketing skills with prevalent fashion are very important to uphold these traditional artisans, and institutions like NIFT can do much more.

The Union Minister said his ministry is working on several alternatives to traditional yarns like wool. He said vegan wool is being developed with jute as an alternative to wool. This reflects innovation and technology in the changing times of fashion. Thirty artisans from Bihar and Jharkhand are exhibiting their art, craft, and handloom products.
