The three-day Silver Jubilee celebrations of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will begin today to mark the occasion. The Commission is completing 25 years of its existence with its 26th Foundation Day today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Silver Jubilee Foundation Day of the Commission in New Delhi.

He will also launch the new version of the NHRC website, which will be more user-friendly and accessible to persons with special needs. Mr Modi will issue a Postage Stamp and Special Cover on the occasion. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of State (Independent



Charge) for Communications Manoj Sinha will also take part in the event.

The Commission will organize a ‘Human Rights Mela’ and ‘Human Rights Street Theatre Festival’ tomorrow. The cultural extravaganza, open for public, will be inaugurated by NHRC Chairperson, Justice H.L. Dattu. 

On Sunday, NHRC will organize a Human Rights Walk to generate awareness about various aspects of human rights. The NHRC was set up on the 12th October, 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Act, passed by Parliament.
