Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapady K Palanisamy has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and secure the release of 85 Tamil fishermen lodged in Lankan jail and their 128 fishing boats. In a letter written to the Prime Minister he pointed out that the livelihood of fishermen is badly affected as the fishing boats are damaged due to prolonged detention.
The continued attack by Sri Lankan Navy on Tamil Nadu fishermen has created panic. In the past few days Sri

Lankan Navy apprehended 32 fishermen and detained their five boats. The fishermen associations met in Rameswaram and announced strike if the fishermen are not released immediately.
They have also decided not to attend the Kachatheevu St Antony’s church festival on 11th and 12th of this month. The local fishermen urge the immediate release of 85 fellow fishermen lodged in Lankan jail and retrieve 128 boats detained by Sri Lanka as deterrent measure.
