Hours after the Tamil Nadu Assembly passed the Bill seeking to replace the ordinance on Jallikattu, Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao forwarded it to President Pranab Mukherjee for his assent.A statement from the Raj Bhavan on Monday night said that the Bill, after its passage in the Legislative Assembly, has to be reserved by the governor for the consideration of the President under
Article 254 (2) of the Constitution.
“Accordingly, the governor reserved the Bill for the consideration of the President,” the communique said.The governor had promulgated ‘The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Tamil Nadu Amendment) Ordinance, 2017’ so as to facilitate the smooth conduct of the traditional bull-taming sport, and remove the ban.
