The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage), Bill, 2019, or Triple Talaq Bill will be taken up for consideration and passing in Rajya Sabha today.
Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will move the bill to protect the rights of married Muslim women and to prohibit divorce by pronouncing talaq by their husbands. Lok Sabha had already passed the Bill.
The Bill proposes to make the triple talaq as a cognizable offence. It also provides allowance to
victim women and their dependent children. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is also scheduled to move the Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in Rajya Sabha to amend the Companies Act, 2013.
In Lok Sabha, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan will move the Consumer Protection Bill, 2019. Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar will also move the bill, Code on Wages, 2019.
