Thousands of people defying curfew came out on the roads in the old-city areas of Srinagar, after a young guard of an ATM was found dead under mysterious circumstances near the SMHS hospital here.
While the protesters claim that he was shot dead by security forces, the police said he was shot with a pellet gun aimed from close quarters leaving a deep wound in his abdomen. Sources
said that the autopsy report of the young man revealed that he was killed due to pellet firing; 200 pellets were found inside his abdomen.
On Tuesday evening another civilian was killed and two others were critically injured in the Lethpora area of Pulwama district, when the security guards of an additional district commissioner opened fire on protesters.
The police have arrested one police officer believed to be responsible on this account. The young man who was killed was buried on Wednesday amid heavy protests and clashes in Pulwama, in which several people were injured.
With the death of these two young men, the death toll in the current unrest has come up to 54.
