Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray wanted to resign from the post on Monday, June 27, as per sources. The chief minister reportedly wanted to announce the decision at 5 pm today via social media.
Sources added that NCP chief Sharad Pawar convinced Uddhav Thackeray not to resign as Maharashtra CM. The chief minister had offered to resign twice but was reportedly convinced against it by Sharad Pawar.
Last week, Uddhav Thackeray had said that he is ready to quit as CM if that is what the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs want. The Maharashtra
chief minister also claimed that he is ready to quit the post of Shiv Sena chief as well if that's what the MLAs want.
"I am willing to quit the Shiv Sena chief’s post too. My Shiv Sainiks have to tell me this and I will quit both posts. But come face-to-face and tell me," Thackeray said.
Uddhav Thackeray's statement comes as political crisis deepens in Maharashtra after Eknath Shinde along with several other MLAs rebelled against the party, plunging the tripartite MVA government, comprising the Sena, NCP and Congress, into a crisis.
