Mumbai: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in Mumbai last night on a three-day visit to India. During his visit, Mr Guterres will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

The UN Secretary-General will commence his visit by paying tributes to the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks at Hotel Taj Palace in Mumbai today. He will interact with the students of IIT Bombay later in the day.
 
Tomorrow, Mr Guterres will join Prime Minister Modi at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, at the launch of the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) booklet, logo and tagline. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will hold bilateral discussions with the UN Chief on



issues of global concern, steps to deepen India's engagement with the UN, including through India's upcoming Presidency of the G20 and reformed multilateralism. In Kevadiya, Mr Guterres is expected to pay floral tributes at the Statue of Unity. 

The UN Secretary-General will also visit India's first solar-powered village in Modhera, Gujarat and other development projects in the area. He will also visit the Sun Temple in Modhera, before departing for his onward destination.

This is the first visit of Mr Guterres to India, since he commenced his second term in office in January this year. He had earlier visited India in October 2018.
