A part of an under-construction bridge across the Manair River in Telangana's Peddapalli district collapsed on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday reportedly due to adverse weather conditions.
No casualties were reported in the incident, which occurred amid heavy rainfall and strong winds in the area. The bridge was being constructed to connect Peddapalli and Bhupalpally districts.
Notably, the foundation stone of the one-kilometre-long
bridge was laid back in 2016 with a budget of Rs 49 crore, aimed at enhancing connectivity and streamlining transportation between the two districts.
However, despite nearly eight years passing since the project's inception, it remains incomplete.
The construction of the bridge was delayed due to the alleged mishandling of the project. The contractor reportedly stopped the construction work within a few years due to delays in payment for completed tasks.
