New Delhi: The government is trying hard to achieve the goal of two crore Lakhpati Didis by the end of this year. Briefing media in New Delhi yesterday, Union Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh expressed confidence that ten crore Lakhpati Didis will be created by 2029 in the country.
In his Independence Day speech this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Government is working with Women’s Self Help Groups with the aim of creating two crore Lakhpati Didis in villages. Mr. Singh also asserted that there is no deficit of funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) saying that the Finance Ministry has been approached for
additional funds and it will be sanctioned soon.
He said 2,644 crore person days have been generated during the last nine years under the scheme. He added that over 67 thousand Amrit Sarvoar have been constructed under the water storage initiative in rural areas.
The Minister informed that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin 3.21 crore houses in rural areas have been constructed in the last nine years. Mr. Singh also said 7.44 lakh Kilometers of road length have been completed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and 1.62 lakh rural habitations have been connected through all weather roads.
