Union Minister for Power Manohar Lal yesterday urged all stakeholders of the Power Sector to collaborate to achieve 2,100 Gigawatts of power generation by 2047. Addressing the Central Electricity Authority Brainstorming Conclave in New Delhi, the Minister emphasised the critical role of renewable energy in India’s future power mix. He also stressed the importance of creating a skilled workforce to support this modernisation. 

The Power Minister expressed concern about the challenges posed by climate change in attaining the targets of



the sustainable and resilient power sector. He stressed that India must reduce its carbon emissions by nearly one lakh tonnes by 2030 while fulfilling its growing power demand. The Minister also showed optimism that the nation can achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070.

On the sidelines, the Union Minister also launched the National Electricity Plan (Transmission). The plan targets to achieve 500 Giga Watts of renewable energy installed capacity by 2030 and over 600 Gigawatts by 2032.
