Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited the Ahilyanagar district in Maharashtra yesterday. During his visit, he interacted with local farmers at the Babhaleshwar Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Rahata Taluka.
Addressing the farmers, Chouhan emphasized the pivotal role of farmers in the nation’s economy. He said, the farmer is the backbone of the country, and enhancing their economic well-being through increased agricultural productivity remains the top priority of the central government.
Highlighting the need for innovation in agriculture, Chouhan remarked, “It is essential to transition from traditional farming practices to modern, technology-driven agriculture.” He added
that research on 300 new crop varieties had been completed this year, and significant funds had been allocated for fertilizer subsidies.
Chouhan also shed light on farmer-centric decisions made during the recent Union Cabinet meeting, reiterating the government’s commitment to agricultural advancement.
As part of the program, Chouhan honoured several women with the “Lakhpati Didi” certificates, recognizing their contributions to agriculture and rural development. Beneficiary farmers were also handed over tractors during the event. Additionally, the Union Minister inaugurated an agricultural exhibition showcasing innovative farming practices and technologies.
