In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has constituted a seven-member probe committee to look into the alleged exodus of hundreds of hindu families out of Kairana in Shamli district for fear of their lives from another religious group. Sources said, the committee will be comprising four members of Parliament and three leaders from Uttar Pradesh, for an on-the-spot study at Kairana.
Refuting the Akhilesh Yadav Government’s claim that there was no migration from Kairana, the BJP yesterday challenged the Chief Minister to take the 2017 Assembly polls as a referendum on the issue of law and order in the State. On the other hand, the UP chief minister yesterday accused the BJP of spreading canards about migration of Hindu families from Kairana. Mr Yadav said, the list of names released by MP Hukum
Singh refers to those who had left the town five to 15 years ago, when Samajwadi Party was not even in power in the state.
A report on 118 names was submitted yesterday by the Uttar Pradesh police and the Shamli district administration, who are checking on names in BJP MP Hukum Singh’s list. It found that five dead, 12 still present and 46 moved out since 2011, 55 moved out at least 6-11 years ago are among those figuring in the list.
Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of attempting to communalise the state's atmosphere ahead of the assembly polls in 2017 saying that independent inquiry by the media as well as the district administration clearly proves that most of the people who left Kairana had done so in order to find better opportunities for themselves.
