Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Bridge Corporation Rajan Mittal has been removed from his post.The agency is engaged in the construction of Varanasi flyover where an accident had claimed 15 lives and left 12 people injured on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a high-level Enquiry committee set up by the Chief Minister to probe into the accident submitted its report last evening.
The three-member committee was headed by the Agriculture Production Commissioner RP Singh. On the basis of the report, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked the Public Works Department to take strict actions against seven senior officers of UP Bridge Corporation including the MD Rajan Mittal and Chief Project Manager SC Tiwari.
Other officers who have been held responsible for the accident in the report are former Project Manager, Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager and two junior project managers. PWD
authorities have been asked for taking stern against them also.
Mr Yogi has also asked all state construction agencies to follow provisions of the third-party audit to ensure the quality of construction. In the Enquiry report, several serious objections have been raised for violating procedures by the officers at construction site.
The report has also raised serious concern for not proper barricading of the construction site and traffic diversion during construction.
Additional District Magistrate Varanasi Manoj Kumar Rai has also initiated a magisterial probe into the accident. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has also set up a three-member high power technical committee to ascertain technical reasons behind the accident.
The committee has been asked to file its report within 15 days.
