Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sought reports from Varanasi Commissioner about police lathi charge on Benaras Hindu University, BHU, students and injury to journalists. 

Situation turned violent on Saturday when a group of students went to meet Vice Chancellor at his residence and they were disbursed following lathi charge by university security guards. 

The anxiety began five days back when the Students specifically girls, statrted agitation at BHU over an incident of misbehaviour with a girl student in the campus on Thursday night last week.Circle Officer Bhelupur and SHO Lanka police station have been removed. 

Police has arrested 16 students last night from the campus siting on Dharna. Police has lodged FIR against 1000 unidentified students for violence and arson on the report of BHU administration.

FIR under IT act for spreading rumour on social media.On Sunday, students of Benaras Hindu University BHU in Uttar Pradesh organised Dharna near Birla hostel and took out procession seeking removal of Vice Chancellor Prof Girish Chandra Tripathi. 

A all party meeting was also held last evening out side the campus near Ravidas gate in Lanka area.Detained Congress leaders including Raj Babbar and PL Punia have been released on personal bonds. They were detained by the police yesterday when they were moving to BHU to participate in all party meeting.

Large number of security forces are deployed in and around the BHU campus to maintain peace and get the hostels vacated after announcement of closure of University till October 2.

Meanwhile, all educational institutions in Varanasi have been closed from today till 2nd of next month in view of tension caused of Benaras Hindu University, BHU, students agitation.
