UP cop arrested for attempting to rape six-year-old girl

A 48-year-old police constable was arrested on Saturday for allegedly attempting to rape a six-year-old girl inside a police outpost in Greater Noida, officials said.

The accused, identified only by his first name Narendra, was said to be in uniform and heavily inebriated when he tried to assault the girl inside the Kulesara police chowki on Saturday morning.

Hundreds of angry people from Kulesara village – where the family of the minor resides -- gathered outside the



police chowki demanding arrest of the accused.

Greater Noida’s rural superintendent of police Suniti, who uses only her first name, said the accused has been terminated from service with “immediate effect” and “booked under non-bailable charges”, including sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Narendra, a native of Partapur in Meerut, was posted at Kulesara for the last four years of his 27-year service period.
