The Uttar Pradesh government announced a reward of Rupees one crore each for olympic medal winners PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik and outstanding performer Dipa Karmakar. Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav announced it while he gave away cash award of Rs 10 lakh each to the state players who represented India at the Rio Games.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM promised all the help for sportspersons in future and assured them to revive sports quota in UP Police recruitment.
The chief minister Akhilesh Yadav also gave away the Rani Laxmi Bai and Laxman awards to the outstanding sports persons on National Sports Day on Monday in Lucknow.
The wife of master dribbler Mohammad Shahid received the prize on behalf of her late husband. Two cricketers - Suresh Raina and Deepti Sharma couldn't make it to the awards function and their respective brothers received the same on their behalf. Also absent from the function was shooter Jitu Rai.
