The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to conduct a probe into the sale of 21 sugar mills in the state in 2010-11. After a meeting with the Sugarcane Development department, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, it was scam of about 1,100 crore rupees, and the state government may recommend CBI probe into the matter.

He said, nobody has the right to misuse public property and those violating it will be brought to justice. The Chief Minister also said, FIRs will be lodged against sugar mills if they failed to pay arrears of sugarcane farmers by the 23rd of this month. He also directed to take all



measures to run defunct sugar mills of cooperative sector in next crushing season.

Mr Adityanath added that a committee should be set up to suggest the authorities for maximum utilisation of sugar mills resources during off season.

Around 3,000 crore rupees of sugar cane costs have been paid to farmers after the Yogi government came to power. It is 21 percent more as compared to the previous season. Over 18,000 crore rupees was to be paid to farmers for crushing season 2015 -16 and around 17,840 crores have already been paid during new regime.
