The United States has asked the members of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) to consider and support India's application to join the group during the plenary meeting in Seoul beginning today. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters at his daily news conference that participating governments will need to reach a consensus and the United States will certainly be advocating for India's
membership.
His comments came after China said that India's membership is not on the agenda of the NSG meeting. Earnest said that United States strongly supports India's application to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group. At a separate news conference, State Department Spokesman John Kirby said that the US continue to call on the NSG member countries to support India's application at the plenary session.
